It is cold come wintertime. During freshman year, I had many experiences in SUNY Potsdam that I didn't think I would have. You can find some sort of performance nearly every weekend between classes, clubs, and the theatre/dance department. The Crane School of Music was also very enjoyable. If I had to change one thing about SUNY Potsdam I would say there needs to be more accessible mental health care for students. In the beginning, I was very nervous about settling down by myself in a different area in New York. But it’s the students that make the school. I contacted them several times before I enrolled in courses for the Fall semester as a graduate student, and they always responded to me and gave me accurate directions for any concerns that I had. All of the music faculty is amazing and I’m very grateful to be a part of their Music Education and Performance programs. Great school for music. As far as safety goes, the frequent ice and snow that we get is always taken care of for the most part and there are class cancellations if really needed.
